To the Redwood Forests…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Liz @ 12:46 pm

The Northern California Redwood forests were one of the most beautiful places we’ve been. How rare to actually be able to approach a living thing 3000 times your size and stand right beside it.

My Favorite Doughnut: Top Pot

Filed under: Uncategorized — Liz @ 3:54 pm

Those of you who know me well may not think of me as a big doughnut eater and that’s because, well, I’m not. In Seattle it’s necessary to make exceptions. The city is home to two wonderful donut makers, or should I say craftsmen, Mighty O and Top Pot. The organic, Mighty O’s are my cousin Kate’s favorite but I unfortunately prefer their less healthy counterpart, the Top Pot. Pictured below is me with my chocolate cake glazed and eli with his “red eye”. Though he looks a little intimidated by the donut in this picture, he really quite enjoyed it.

My Favorite Vegetarian Restaurant: Carmelita’s

We had a delicious dinner here and even omnivore eli loved his soup. Pictured are my quinoa cakes with tomato reduction and crisped basil.

Grizzly!

He’s there- squint and you’ll see him (or her). We saw a bunch of cars pulled over on our way into Yellowstone- everyone had their cameras out and we knew there was something special (and probably furry) to see. If you look really close you can see his or her bear friend. The two of them eventually sauntered off together.

Hurricane Hanna, Hanover style

Filed under: Uncategorized — Liz @ 10:28 pm

Sorry, couldn’t resist putting all those “h”s together. While Hanna contributed rain to the weekend, our crew in Hanover managed to have a pretty great Saturday night with hardshell crabs and Natty Bo (though I passed on the National Bohemian and eli passed on the crabs).  Together, we possess the two halves of an ideal Maryland crab-feast attendee.

Back for more!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Liz @ 9:10 pm

Thanks to everyone who’s been reading the blog! Sorry for the long delay. After the dramatic Newfoundland pictures, I felt like blogging about our week in New York was too banal. However, it was a wonderful week and included such highlights as biking the North Fork Century as two-thirds of Team Spiedino (David Ullman is our third member) and lots of quality time with friends and eating our favorite NYC foods. The picture below is eli double dipping into some tart and delicious wild Maine blueberries, picked (raked?) by friends Tim and Cameron and eaten at Graham and Lucy’s apt. in Portland, Maine- thanks for putting us up!
