Tuesday was our other sunny day…

We went biking with cousin Will Sullivan and had a classic lake swim. No one got eaten by the monster that lives at the bottom of the lake.

We had 2 partly sunny days in New Hampshire. This was one of them. We had a grilled dinner with Uncle Bill and Aunt Cyndy in their backyard. Super delicious.

We arrive in New Hampshire and when exiting the grocery store in Hanover experience the most dramatic thunderstorm we’ve seen. Ever. In our whole lives. Really.

Belmont, Massachusetts

We spent 2 night with the Sullivans in Belmont. I took a terrific picture of eli beside an antique train car at the end of the Minuteman Bike Trail in Bedford, Mass, but my memory chip wasn’t in my camera. You can picture it though: he’s got his red bike jersey on and is kind of sweaty.

New England

We started out New England leg of the journey with a night in Norwalk, Connecticut, with eli’s good friend Meredith and her soon-to-be husband Seth. I got to look at FANTASTIC high-school-era photos of eli but forgot to take any myself.

We packed up and headed north to Maryland. Below, a picture of me, Joan and Pete in front of his 1960 Buick, near Mayo, Maryland.

Family Dinners…

One of the many great things about our week in the Outer Banks was our big family dinners each night. In New York, we rarely cooked or ate (at home) with anyone but ourselves. Below, a picture of Joan sitting down with Abby to enjoy a Mexican dinner eli and I made (though Joan is the master guacamole maker). If any of you own the most recent edition of *Joy of Cooking, *I highly recommend the Avocado Corn salsa recipe on page 62- it was super delicious on the fish tacos!

We rode our bikes as far north as we could, to where the road ends. At that point, those in sturdier vehicles take a left and keep driving on the beach to see the wild horses that live on the coast. We didn’t get to see any horses, but can’t complain about the unobstructed view of the ocean. The surf was a bit angrier than due to Hurricane Bertha.

A good sunset is always followed

… by an earnest attempt to get a good family pic with said sunset in the back, or at least the beautiful sky it’s left behind. It is really hard to learn to use your camera’s timer whilst organizing 8 people for a photo.
